The houses are maintained by a charitable trust who are responsible for maintaining and preserving this heritage of William Shakespeare for generations to come. The other important period property looked after by the trust in Stratford-Upon-Avon is Harvard House. Harvard House, which dates back to 1596, was the home of Katherine Rogers the mother of John Harvard whose bequest made possible the founding of Harvard University.

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is an independent charity and receives no external funding. they rely entirely on the support of the visitors to allow them to continue offering a wide range of public events and learning opportunities, as well as caring for the five Shakespeare Houses and Gardens in and around Stratford-upon-Avon.
