Stratford is undoubtably best known for being the birthplace of the worlds most famous playwright William Shakespeare. Today Stratford is home to the Royal Shakespeare Company and no visit to Stratford would be complete without sampling one of Shakespeare's great works in his late home. The RSC main theatre in Stratford is the Royal Shakespeare Theatre which is currently undergoing a £100 Million renovation project which will transform the theatre into a world class venue when it re-opens in 2010. The RSC have ensured that there is still a full programme of Shakespeare to indulde in whilst the Royal Shakespeare Theatre undergoes it's transformation. They have done this by transforming their former small studio theatre The Other Place into the new Courtyard Theatre. The Courtyard Theatre incorporates a new 1,048 seat auditorium and its new stage is a prototype for the one that will be used in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The existing Other Place audotorium has been used to provide the theatres foyer space, bar areas, dressing room and rehearsal space. Once the Royal Shakespeare Theatre is complete the Courtyard Theatre will close and The Other Place will return to its role as the RSC's studio theatre. Stratford-Upon-Avon: RSC Theatres
