Stratford-Upon-Avon: RSC TheatresThe Courtyard TheatreThe new 1,000 seat Courtyard Theatre opened in July 2006 with Michael Boyd's staging of the Henry VI trilogy as part of the Complete Works of Shakespeare Festival. The Courtyard Theatre is currently acting as the temporary home to the Royal Shakespeare company in Stratford Upon Avon whilst development work on the Royal Shakespeare Theatre is completed. The Courtyard Theatre is also acting as a prototype for the new type of thrust stage that will be used in the RST which ensures the audience is much closer to the performance for a more intimate experience. This new stage will mean that the furthest seat from the stage will be only 15 metres away reduced from 27 metres in the old theatre. The RSC is running a full programme in Stratford so ensure you check what's on prior to your visit to ensure you enjoy a magical work of Shakespeare in his spiritual home.
