Stratford-Upon-Avon: May

Stratford-upon-Avon hosts four days of classical music at the Spring Sounds International Music Festival.

Featuring the compositions of Mozart, Schumann, Mendelssohn and more, the festival brings cherished classics and new commissions to the Warwickshire town. The Orchestra of the Swan play a variety of classics by Vivaldi, Beethoven, Mozart and Schumann at the Civic Hall. While over at the Compton Verney Art Gallery, they later perform Walton's Facade - an entertainment.

The festival also features the brilliant Russian pianist Tatiana Dardykina, playing the master-works of Chopin as part of a programme celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Taking place over the late Bank Holiday from Friday 28 – Monday 31 May 2010 Spring Sounds International Music Festival presents four days of extraordinary music-making in Stratford-upon-Avon, one of Britain’s most beautiful and historic towns.

Highlights for 2010 include:

• Artistic Director Tasmin Little performing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Beethoven’s seminal Violin Concerto with Orchestra of the Swan
• A day of exquisite chamber music at Stratford-upon-Avon’s elegant Town Hall including the Mozart Clarinet Quintet and Mendelssohn Octet
• A concert at Compton Verney’s beautiful Adam Hall
• Impromptu concerts taking place in the shops and cafes around the town
• Premieres of three new works - the third instalment of Roxanna Panufnik’s Four Seasons - this time Indian Summer, Ivor McGregor’s Symphony no2 and Joanna Lee’s The Chronicles of Archy
• The immensely popular Swan Unbuttoned will be launching their latest CD and bringing the festival to a close on the Monday evening
