The Holy Trinity Church was established as a place of worship in the 13th century and remains an active parish church to this day. It is probably one of the most visited churches in England due to the ties with Stratford's most famous citizen William Shakespeare. Shakespeare was baptized and even served as lay rector at the church and his remains lay buried in the chancel where you can still see the curse that he asked to be placed on his grave to prevent his remains being disturbed to make room for others.
The grounds of the church can be accessed for free and give you the chance to admire the beautiful church and its gardens where you can sit and watch the world go by with a beautiful and tranquil view of the river. Whilst entry to the church is free there is a small charge of £1.50 to see the chancel where Shakespeare and his family rest which helps fund the restoration needed to preserve the church for future generations.
If you are interested in helping further with this you can visit the Friends of Shakespeare's Church a registered charity who are committed to this preservation of this great treasure.
