Stratford-Upon-Avon: Bancroft Gardens

The beautiful Bancroft gardens located on the edge of the river Avon are a highlight of any visit to Stratford. Having recently under gone a major redevelopment the gardens now have a more contemporary feel, complemented by historic features. The Gower memorial statue located in the gardens on the far side boasts Shakespeare and images representing tragedy, comedy, history, and philosophy taken from the well-known Shakespearean charters of Lady Macbeth, Falstaff, Prince Hal, and Hamlet. 

The RSC Theatre dominates the gardens and is currently in the process of a major refurbishment. Once complete, visitors will be able to enjoy views across the gardens and into the town via a new viewing tower.   Presented to the town by the Queen in 1996 and located in the Bancroft gardens opposite the theatre is the lovely brass and stainless steel fountain with its surrounding seating areas it provides wonderful setting to watch the world pass by.  

In the summer time street entertainers draw big crowds with comedy acts, juggling, and fire eating offers fun for all the family. The gardens also have floating ice cream vendors and to really relax deck chairs can be hired just in front of the theatre. There is a lovely holiday vibe to the area and the Bancroft gardens offer a wonderful place to relax and unwind.
