The name Holiday Inn always conjures up a bit of a poor perception in me if I’m honest and I tend not to expect great things.
The Holiday Inn in Stratford however is a very nice hotel. The location is very good being right on the edge of town so providing easy access into town. All the key attractions are just a short stroll away and the hotel it is set back from the road enough not to be disturbed by any traffic noise, despite being just off the main one way system as you enter Stratford.
The other bonus is the parking which is plentiful and secure so you don’t need to worry about anything when you arrive, making the whole experience much more hassle free.
Inside the Holiday Inn is modern and spacious and has lots of areas to sit and grab a coffee whilst you plan your day out in Stratford.
The rooms are modern, clean and practical and offer a good level of comfort when you need to re-charge you batteries.
The hotel is based on the banks of the Avon and on a nice day the grounds behind the hotel offer an outdoor seating area overlooking the river which is a nice treat and slightly unexpected when you view the hotel from the front.
There is a restaurant and access to good leisure facilities in the hotel and the food is of a good standard.
This hotel does have less character than other choices such as the Alveston Manor or the Shakespeare but it does offer a more modern smart style and it is very handily located with the bonus of plenty of parking.
I don’t think you would be disappointed by a stay in the Holiday Inn, however you may cast a jealous glance at some of the more character hotels that are more in keeping with Stratford’s charm.
Stratford has seen three new budget hotels open in the space of a year. There are now two Premier Inn’s and a Travelodge in Stratford, offering hundreds of budget rooms for visitors who are looking to travel without breaking the bank.
These new budget hotels have made life difficult for the established B&B’s who offer a more characterful experience at great value but ultimately find it difficult to compete with the scale of the large budget chains.
We think the Premier Inn’s offer a good choice for visitors with great access to the town at some unbelievable prices. As both Premier Inn’s are brand new the rooms and facilities are like new and the central Premier Inn offers a great location, being located on the edge of the town centre.
A good budget alternative to the more pricey hotels in Stratford, whilst losing none of the convenience of location.
This is a hotel with few compromises in terms of location and offers suitable accommodation but it does things in a no frills way as you would expect.

The Premier Inn Waterways is set just to the north of Stratford town centre and as you would expect from the naming it is located a little further away from the action than the Premier Inn Central. That said it is still easily walkable into town and the building looks inviting and is set next to the canal which is a nice setting for the hotel.
Of the two Premier Inn’ s we would recommend the Waterways. Whilst it is slightly further out of town than the central Premier Inn, the setting on the canal and the convenience of on-site parking would make this our choice.

The Shakespeare Hotel is located next to the Guild Chapel in the town centre. Like the Church Street Townhouse, which is directly opposite the Shakespeare, it is in a fantastic central location ensuring you are right in the heart of Stratford for your stay.
You are literally round the corner from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and within a very short walk of all of the shops and attractions in town.
The Shakespeare Hotel is an absolutely fabulous building and offers bags of traditional charm, which wood paneled walls and fabulously creaky floorboards. You really can imagine this hotel being very similar when the bard lived up the street. If you want a taste of the real Shakespeare experience you should really enjoy your stay in the Shakespeare.
A cream team in the Shakespeare’s lounge is certainly a pleasant way to spend an hour or two whilst you watch people passing buy framed by the lead lined windows.
As with the some of the other town centre hotels the parking can be very limited and you often have to drive a little way from the hotel in order to park which can be a pain. In return for the minor hassle on arrival you do get a great location.

The Church Street Townhouse is a boutique hotel based right in the town centre opposite the Guild Chapel. The hotel is a popular bar and restaurant for that has opened it’s doors to guests wishing to stay the night. The hotel is a lovely boutique style hotel with only 12 rooms available so supply is limited.
This is a great choice if you want to be in the centre of town and prefer a livelier and more trendy hotel than some of the more traditional choices. That’s not to say the Church Street lacks charm, it is really nicely laid out and offers great food and a lovely place to have a glass or two of your favourite tipple.
The bar can get quite lively at times on a weekend as the Church Street is equally popular with locals and tourists which means demand for tables is often high so make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Nice alternative to the more chain style hotels with a really nice boutique style and a fantastic central location. Popular spot with locals means the bar and restaurant can get busy at peak times.
We don’t have a direct booking relationship with the Church Street Townhouse but we would still heartily recommend it.
You can contact them on 01789 262222.
The Alveston Manor Hotel is in a superb location, it is within easy walking distance of the town centre and short stroll away from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre whilst being set in its own grounds. It lies to the south of the town just over the famous Clopton Bridge providing a more peaceful retreat than some of the more central hotels.
The Alveston Manor is a lovely period building and lies in its own considerable grounds of its own with ample car parking to save any hassle on your arrival.
This hotel boast some lovely traditional features and has bags of style, whilst still offering plenty of modern luxury such as the vital health club which offers modern equipment and a large swimming pool. For those after a more sedate pace of life the traditionally panelled bar with open fire is a certainly a pleasant way to spend some time before heading into the town.
The Alveston Manor is certainly many people first choice when booking a hotel in Stratford and often plays host to weddings and special occasions with the garden offering fantastic photo opportunities.
If you are looking for a nice hotel with a fantastic location you are unlikely to be disappointed.

The Welcombe hotel is based a short distance from Stratford town centre, set in midst of the delightfully peaceful Welcombe hills. The hotel is a magnificent Jacobean style affair which is surrounded by 157 acres of spectacular countryside.
The Welcombe boasts some superb facilities with a newly built Spa that offers some truly fantastic facilities, not to mention the fantastic golf course that once played host to the European Seniors Ryder tour event which is laid out in the grounds at the front of the hotel. After driving up the winding private drive, getting glimpses of the course you arrive at the main car park which offers a view of the surrounding Welcombe hills.
The Weclombe is a traditional hotel with some delightful rooms with open fires and lovely period paneled rooms. One thing that is thoroughly modern is the recently built spa, which offers a really relaxing and refreshing environment to re-energise weary travelers. There is a first class swimming pool that looks stunning surrounded by heated loungers and footspas allowing you to unwind between swims. There are sauna and steam rooms as well as some more unusual touches such as tropical showers and relaxation rooms with ceilings lined with lights to give the appearance of a stary night sky.
There is also a relatively small but bright and modern, well equipped gym that has a range of modern exercise machines that can offer you all the challenge you need, along with a range of free weights and exercise mats. There are also a range of excercise classes on offer held withing a modern exercise suite . We particularly enjoyed the outside spa pool that is enclosed in glass on all sides but is uncovered you you can get a great view of the sky whilst relaxing in a warm spa with hydration jets.
A truly luxurious hotel in a fantastic location.
