Waitrose Store has planning application rejected

13 May 2010

Council reject planning application to build a neighbourhood centre on a site off the Shipston Road Stratford-upon-Avon.

The plans which inluded a new pharmacy, community hall, medical centre, mini supermarket and park and ride on the site looked likely to be given the go ahead after being recommend by planning officers. The site would have been located south of the river serving residents of the Trinity Mead estate.

The developers claim the development would have brought significant benefits to the area as well as creating an additional 300 jobs.

Objections from conservation groups, local residents and the town council raised concerns around the impact to the area and to the impact of increased traffic on already conjested routes.

Managing director, Tony Bird, said the company was looking into the possibility of an appeal.
